Partnership Created to Help Homeless Veterans

Home Forward, the City of Portland, Multnomah County, and the United Way have each contributed $10,000 toward a fund that will make it easier for homeless veterans to find an apartment with a VASH rent assistance voucher.  The national VASH (Veterans Administration Supportive Housing) program pairs supportive services from the Veterans Administration with rent assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  The rent assistance is administered by local housing authorities near VA medical centers.

Home Forward, its project partners, and neighbors will gather on Tuesday, September 25 to celebrate the start of building construction at Stephens Creek Crossing. 

The ceremonial wall raising event starts at 11 a.m. at the construction site, 6775 SW 26th Ave, Portland.  Featured speakers include U.S. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici and Multnomah County Commissioner Deborah Kafoury.

Volunteers Build Dream Playground in One Day

Home Forward, Humana, Inc., KaBOOM! (a national non-profit organization that has built more than 2,100 playgrounds), and volunteers will join forces on Saturday, September 22 to build a one-of-a-kind multi-generational playground at Home Forward's Gateway Park Apartments.

The customized playground, funded primarily by Humana, a leading health and wellness company, was created with personal drawings and input from Gateway Park residents -- from children to seniors -- and will be built in six hours.

$5.5 Million Grant to Benefit Home Forward Residents

Worksystems, Inc., in collaboration with Home Forward and other Portland area housing authorities and workforce agencies, has been awarded a $5.5 milion federal grant to help housing authority residents gain the life and employment skills they need for self-sufficiency.

The work will expand a successful 2010 collaboration between Home Forward and Worksystems, Inc. that provided a host of workforce development services and training to help Home Forward residents move into living wage jobs.

If you live in a Home Forward apartment community or participate in the Section 8 program, your child has the opportunity to attend Camp Rosenbaum, a youth citizenship summer camp on the Oregon coast.  There is no cost to the campers or their families.
