What is public housing?

Public housing consists of apartment and townhouse communities that are owned and managed by Home Forward.  Federal funds allow us to charge affordable rent that is based on your household’s income.  Click here for public housing handbook.

What is project-based assistance?

Project-based assistance is a program that provides help with your rent while you live in the apartment.  This housing assistance cannot be used in your current home or taken elsewhere.

Application Guidelines

  • The online application is simple and fast – most people finish it in less than 15 minutes.
  • Home Forward has removed the limit on how many waiting lists you can apply for.  You can now apply to as many waiting lists as you qualify for.  Each bedroom size at each community counts as a separate waiting list.
  • Positions on the waiting list are ordered by preference then by random lottery.
  • Please note: You will be required to establish an account with the application system using either an email or a phone number along with a password of your choosing.

Home Forward will place enough names on the list to last an estimated five years.  The random lottery will decide which eligible applications are added to the list.  If you are chosen for the lottery you will be placed in order on the list for your selected bedroom size by the highest preference you qualify for, and then by your randomly assigned lottery number.
